A boy and his dog... end of story!! |
|
We received the following from an upstate NY shelter in October 2009 --
"Do you or your collective people want to rescue a blue pit...? Bad photo attached. Total goof ball, no DA, high energy, no RG...just a huge pup in need of training. Good looking dog, I'm told people pay a lot for these types...who those people are, I do not know. Just thought I'd ask."
Blue's time was up at the shelter, and his face was just too much to let go...
|
... so to rescue he came --
-- and here's what we got -- !!
A happy, BOUNCY little boy!
Blue came with his trademark "special" green harness, and all he wanted to do was play, play, play -- !!
Blue was left one late night, abandoned, at the shelter, dumped in their fenced-in dog play area --
-- no notes attached, nothing.
We knew he didn't deserve such an end to his life, so we gave him a second chance...
|
|
We even touted him on our forum -- with the following topper, below...
|
|
Blue's prayers are answered...
Well, some months later, came an application from Grayson --
-- a very articulate, sensitive young man.
Ironically, Grayson is from the same town Blue originally was dumped in --
-- and the home-visiter for Grayson was from the shelter that Blue came from!!
At right, you see a jubilant Grayson, a stunned Blue, and Grayson's GREAT Mom -- !!
|
|
|
Now what can we say here, except for "A boy and his dog" --
-- period.
Few things in life are so beautiful, and so pure.
Grayson is a biiigg runner, and little spring-loaded Blue will be his partner -- no question there -- !!
Along with Grayson and Mom came Grayson's parents' family dogs, to see how Blue did with them, in case Mom and Dad needed to watch Blue if Grayson traveled, etc. --
-- Blue did GREAT -- !!
He was very cordial, and even backed up to the Jack-Russell-do male --
-- GOOD BOY BLUE!!
|
Here, to me, is an emotional Blue.
A Blue that was caught in a system that almost broke him.
Adult dog -- check.
Pit bull - check.
Chances at survival at a shelter - weak.
Chances of an exceptional home - slim.
Well, what we were able to do was what we always do at SPBR -- our best --
-- and in Blue's case, it paid off, in spades -- !!
|
|
|
What an absolutely beautiful boy Blue is --
-- it's weird, the things you notice in pictures --
-- his nose really IS blue --
-- and his eyes are the most beautiful of grey color -- matching his coat perfectly.
And his blue brindle is mixed with a lovely champagne hue --
-- just beautiful.
But what's more beautiful is this boy's loving, giving temperament.
|
So, here we are --
-- Blue still a bit dazed, saying (in my eyes) --
-- "REALLY?? These are my PEOPLE now??!!"
-- yes Blue --
-- we're proud to say that they are -- !!
|
|
A day in to it...
Well, Grayson and company got home a-okay, and posted the following pictures on our forum --
-- first, Blue saying "goodbye" to yours true --
-- doggie style --
:D
|
|
|
And then, at HOME!
Grayson writes --
"Hey everyone. I know how much you like pictures so I thought I'd waste no time getting them up here for you. The ride to get Blue was perfect, no problems at all."
|
"So far he has met many family members and has been great with everyone! We've been cuddling on the couch since we got back, he absolutely won't leave my side!" |
|
|
"Blue is fairly small at around 40 lbs. As for the first night, everything went great. No problems with SA being in the crate overnight. He didn't cry or whine a bit."
HAHA -- a "fairly small" lap dog is what Grayson adopted -- !!!
|
So, here we are -- back to a boy and his dog.
I can't say how refreshing this whole experience was with Blue --
-- starting out with his initial rescue by the shelter folks and Leah, who I dealt with directly --
-- people who realize that while the stream of dogs coming in never ends, that each life is worthwhile, and that going the extra mile for a dog such as Blue means the world to this four-legger -- and to his new family --
I was also super-impressed with Grayson -- an obvious result of great parenting, and also, a selfless, considerate young man, who is much more than the "me me me" that we see in so many young people.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Blue's new life a reality --
-- be ready for many updates on this boy and his new life, and rest assured, Grayson, when your Mom asked, "Will you be able to help and support Grayson as he gets used to Blue in the following months?" Well, that we will --
-- there's a small army of fans awaiting you on our forum at pbsmiles.com -- that will help you and Blue be the best of forever homes -- !!
