Pearl and Earl... two of NY's finest -- HOME!!

Here is the story or Earl (right) and Pearl (below) -- both coming from Manhattan, and both in difficult situations.

The following came along with them --

BACKGROUND:

The owner supposedly was using them for breeding and was very upset regarding the spay neuter law. The police needed to be called because the owner was quite aggressive. He was given until last night to come in to reclaim these dogs, but never showed up.

We are hoping to find someone who is willing to give these dogs a better life!

And more --

VOLUNTEER WROTE On 8/26/09, a homeowner asked that four dogs be removed from his property. Somehow they had wandered onto his property, or were placed there, but the dogs weren't his Heckle was one of the 4 dogs. She's young, just 1-1/2 years old, and was so easy to handle. She loved being petted, walks nicely on a leash, has been fine around other dogs she met in the Shelter's backyard, and knows sit ("sientase" in Spanish). Heckles weighs 72 pounds.

Our girl Pearl was named "Heckle" by the NYC staff, and they named Earl "Jeckle" --

-- well, ol' Pearl and Earl deserved the names we gave 'em, and so thought their adopters!!

Here's our girl, Pearl, at intake --

-- looking happy, looking sweet --

-- and had only known life as a "breeder bitch" -- as they're called --

:(

Because Pearl is a coveted "blue nose" blue pit bull (all in the same!), this "man" used her as breeding stock to get him some blue babies -- to sell sell sell --

-- and when his dogs got "loose" and inpounded, he was furious that the NY Animal Control would only give them back to him spayed and neutered --

-- well DUH -- !!!

We view dogs for what they are --

-- and Miss Pearl and Mister Earl are much more than breeding machines --

-- which is what the person who "found them loose" probably thought in the City, after seeing them in outdoor pens as merely "breeders" --

So, on to Earl...

... and just LOOK at how FAR he CAME -- !!

Mister pretty pants he is, indeed!

This is not without much HARD WORK, people!!

Foster Paula in Central NY and her momma, dad and brother spent many an hour helping this boy get back on his feet...

... and at the end of the fostering said, "We love him -- can we adopt?"

And adopt they did!

Here is proud momma Paula with her STUNNING boy -- !!

Next... Miss Pearl

Pearl proved herself a little princess in foster, being a lady, being her OWN DOG (not someone's baby carrier) and getting back in to SHAPE -- !!!

She did so well, that she caught the eye of Lindsey and Pete --

-- and after they had a GREAT application and home visit (thanks Meg!), she was off to survey the peeps herself -- !!

Well, if you don't mind... I'll give myself a tour -- !!

And next, she finds a toy --

-- a toy bought SOLELY for HER -- !!

And she loves this little toy --

-- which looks like a tropical frog of sorts...

... so now, toy, you're Pearl's BITCH --

-- and she isn't a BREEDER bitch any longer -- !!

She says, "Oh, I like this house VERY MUCH" -- !!

da' nom nom nom -- !!!

And too, Pearl gives plenty of lovins' to her new momma, Linds, and poppa, Pete --

She gets a quick neckrub from Pete and thinks...

... Iz thinks Iz LOVEZZZ HIM!!!

Aww --

-- and love we allow --

-- and encourage -- a plenty -- !!!

Next, its off to complete the house-tour, noting which room will be HER OWN --

-- or so Miss Pearl thinks -- !!!

And then, more lovins' --

-- after a bit, it's back to her frog-bitch --

-- just look at Miss P's wrinkled nose -- !!!

All this happens as Linds thinks, pensively, "Might I lose Pete to Pearl?"

And lose, Linds might --

-- just look at Pete's stare -- !!

Next, our girl is com-for-ta-bulll!!!

She's on her back, enjoying her toy, gettin' lovins' from her MAN -- !!

And more honeymooning -- !!

Here I feel like an intruder -- !!

So there, our girl has gone from being mere chattel to a loved and loving part of a home --

-- just PERFECT!

Now that that's over, Pete and Pearl get back to what's really important -- !!

The gaze...

... the wrinkled brow...

The inseparability -- !!

So, here you go --

-- a beautiful, loving young couple with their newest addition, Pearl --

-- and Pearl couldn't be HAPPIER -- !!

This girl is finally on her own -- being loved for who she is --

-- a great, loving companion.

She's no longer judged for the quality of her babies, or the number she had --

:(

-- just instead for her great temperament --

-- and mayyybeee, just maybbeee --

-- for how darned pretty she is -- !!

Love and licks --

-- we take 'em all -- !!

Thank you to NY Animal Control for believing in this girl --

-- thank you to the SPBR people for helping her along --

-- and most importantly, love to Linds and Pete for giving her forever, and for loving this girl for who she is --

-- for the first time in her life.
