Elmer needs your prayers...

I received the following email today from a rescuer I have known for over two years...

Friday, 10/8:

Tonight a good samaritan brought a tiny Pit Bull puppy to me that someone else took from some kids. These were 14 yr. old kids who had the puppy and they were dropping it on the ground and flipping it around like a toy. It has big sores on it's front legs because they were dripping hot glue on it. This little baby is only about 4 weeks old and has to be syringe fed. He is so skinny and so small.

He has been to the vet and is on antibiotics and I am hoping he survives. I am trying to find out where the mom dog and the rest of the litter is. I don't even know who the kids were or where they were located, so I can't report them, but I am trying to find out.

Can you imagine....barely alive just 4 weeks and already abused.

And people wonder why I choose to rescue Pit Bull's??
Because they suffer the most abuse!
What's wrong with this world??

Isn't he cute?"

Sunday, 10/10 update:

As for Elmer....he is really doing very well. He has a healthy appetite and is just adorable. He has started to play a little and squeals like a baby pig. His one leg was burned very badly though and despite my efforts, it is still infected. I am taking him back to the vet, for the 3rd time, on Monday. He will not be ready for adoption for quite some time, but it's good to have prospects. He really is so sweet."

All donations to dear Elmer are tax deductible -- more importantly, please keep him in your prayers.

Halloween Update --

I received this from Elmer's rescuer momma last week...

"Hi Everybody...

I am happy to report that sweet little Elmer, the abused Pit Bull puppy, is healing up very nicely here. This little guy had been taken from his mother at barely 4 weeks old by the breeder and sold to teenagers, who abused and neglected him. When we first received Elmer into rescue, he had severe burns to his front paws, the result of having hot glue poured on them. He had an abcess in his face from what appeared to be a dog bite and was emaciated, dehydrated and as limp as a ragdoll. He had been repeatedly dropped and was not being allowed the rest a puppy of his young age needs. He slept for 9 hours straight when he first arrived here and would have slept longer had I not awoken him to eat, he was so exhausted. This poor little puppy was in bad shape.

Today, Elmer is a fat, healthy, Pit Bull puppy of 6 weeks old. His paw burns have healed, as well as the abcess in his face and although they have left scars, he is running and playing. He is still too little to be with the big dogs on a regular basis, although he does spend a few hours a day with them, just so he can learn to interact as a dog. He loves playing with the cats though and follows them around everywhere, occasionally hanging off a tail or two! The cats don't seem to mind, as they are so used to dogs, that he is nothing more than a nuisance to them.

Although Elmer was severly abused and neglected at such a tender age, it does not appear to have affected his love for people.

Elmer is a perfect example of a Pit Bull....sweet, loving, resilient and trusting, even in the face of horrible abuse and neglect. No other breed suffers from as much cruelty at the hands of humans and no other breed is persecuted as much. Elmer and the many other Pit Bull's we have rescued from abuse and neglect, are shining examples to the true people loving nature of this breed and the undeserved condemnation and cruelty they indure. Elmer is just one more shiny little soul in a sea of ignorance. "

WELL DONE!!!
